Home Ab Workouts

You may be surprised at one of the most important home ab workouts you can do. When people work on their abs to get the chiseled 6 pack look, they usually do crunches, sit-ups, leg raises or a combination of all of these exercises. However, one of the most often overlooked muscles in the abs are the obliques. Those are the muscles that run vertically along the side of your body right beside the six pack over your stomach.

While most people do dumbell side bends to work on these important muscles, there are more effective and safer (for your lower back) alternatives. And the great thing about these exercises is that they can be done at home in the morning before you go to work or anytime you like. You don’t need to go to the gym to get the job done.

Here are three exercises that work great to help you get those killer abs:

Push Up Position Cross Body Leg Raise

In this exercise you get into the starting position for a push up and then while holding that position, bring your right leg up with your knee as close to your left elbow as possible. Do 10 reps and then alternate your left leg doing the same. Do 10 reps per side.

Side Plank Exercise

Lie on your side on a mat or rug and then support your weight with your right elbow and your feet. You will be at about a 20 degree angle with feet on the ground and your head about 2 feet off the ground. Hold this position for 30 seconds and then switch to the other side supporting yourself with your left elbow and forearm.

Spiderman Climbing Push-Up

This exercise takes a little more strength and coordination and is somewhat more intense than the previous 2 exercises. Get into the push up position. As you start to do a push-up bring your right leg up as close to your right elbow as possible, and here’s the tricky part, keep your leg off the ground as you do this. Do 10 reps per side.

These are just 3 exercises that you can do to get really ripped abs by working on the most neglected of abs muscles. Of course getting those killer six pack abs cannot be accomplished by working on just your abs. You must lose fat all over your body so your stomach muscles that you’ve been working so hard to get can show through. If you don’t get rid of stomach fat and other fat on your body, no one will see your abs. The best way to do that is to build muscle all over your body so your metabolism will be raised and you will burn fat all the time.
